Dennis M. Brown, Ph.D.,
the Chairman of MVP’s Board of Directors since 2000, is the President of Valent Technologies,
LLC. In 1999 he founded ChemGenex Therapeutics, which merged with a publicly traded
Australian company in 2004 to become ChemGenex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: CXSP),
of which he served as President and a Director until 2009. He was
previously a co-founder of Matrix Pharmaceutical, Inc., where he served as Vice
President (VP) of Scientific Affairs from 1985-1995 and as VP, Discovery
Research, from 1995-1999. He also previously served as an Assistant Professor of
Radiology at Harvard University Medical School and as a Research Associate in
Radiology at Stanford University Medical School. He received his
B.A. in Biology and Chemistry (1971), M.S. in Cell Biology (1975) and Ph.D. in
Radiation and Cancer Biology (1979), all from New York University.
Dr. Brown is an inventor on about 34 issued US patents and applications, many
with foreign counterparts.
Raymond J. Land,
C.P.A., a Director of MVP since 2005 and head of the Audit Committee, served
as Senior VP and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Clarient, Inc. of Aliso
Viejo, CA, a leading provider of cancer diagnostic testing, from June 2008
until his retirement in December 2009. He currently serves as a Director
of Anika Therapeutics (NASDAQ: ANIK), where he is chairman of the Audit
Committee. Ray has had more than 30 years of financial experience including
responsibility for accounting, tax, treasury, facilities, investor relations,
information management, strategic planning and business development. Prior
to joining Clarient, Ray served as Senior VP and CFO of Safeguard
Scientifics, Inc. (NYSE: SFE). Before that, Ray was an Executive VP and
CFO of Medcenter Solutions, Inc., a global pharmaceutical marketing company.
During 2005 and 2006, Ray was the Senior VP and CFO of Orchid Bioscience
(NASDAQ: ORCH), a DNA laboratory testing service company. From 1997 to
2005, Ray was VP and CFO of Genencor International, Inc., a global
biotechnology company that went public (NASDAQ: GCOR) during his tenure.
Ray’s experience also includes serving as Senior VP and CFO of West
Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (NYSE: WST) and holding a number of
positions at Campbell Soup Company (NYSE: CPB). Prior to that,
Ray was an audit manager with Coopers & Lybrand. He received a
B.B.A. in Accounting and Finance from Temple University.
